Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research Is for the Craving Readers

Although the ISSN entry for the Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research identifies it as a US publication, its mangled management of the English language suggests otherwise. The website describes the goal of this journal's "publishers" as follows:

The only motto of Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research (BJSTR) Publishers is accelerating the scientific and technical research papers, considering the importance of technology and the human health in the advanced levels and several emergency medical and clinical issues associated with it, the key attention is given towards biomedical research. Thus, asserting the requirement of a common evoked and enriched information sharing platform for the craving readers.

BJSTR is such a unique platform to accumulate and publicize scientific knowledge on science and related discipline. This multidisciplinary open access publisher is rendering a global podium for the professors, academicians, researchers and students of the relevant disciplines to share their scientific excellence in the form of an original research article, review article, case reports, short communication, e-books, video articles, etc.

BJSTR Publishers are self supporting, with no dependency on any other external sources (like universities, centers) for funds and strives for the best and enhanced quality publications competes the world wide open access publishing market.

We always rely on the support from the members of our BJSTR family that is relevantly our Authors, Editorial Committee members, advisory board, Reviewers Board and all the technical support teams all over the globe. We trust in the reciprocated coordination and cooperation in terms of sharing the scientific knowledge of individuals and Groups of Research centers/areas will in turn educates and provokes in advanced researches. In this case we would like to act as a media that anchors in the transformation of information in the form of global online publication.

With writing like this, the absence of "dependency on any ... external sources (like universities, centers) for fund" is understandable. So is the fact that the journal is not in the National Library of Medicine collection and not indexed for Medline.

When one researcher "submitted a string of machine-generated nonsense" entitled "The Expression of the Proper-Name Effect Reinforces the Disarticulation ofCommunicative [sic] Rationality," the article was "quickly accepted after scrupulous peer review." Evidently, the editors did not notice that the author was Harold E. Potter of the Institute of Improbabilistics, University of Bogus, UK. An author posting on Researchgate reports that when he declined to pay the $600 fee, the journal dropped the price to $99.

Wisely, the publishers do not reveal their identities. The domain name biomed-res.org in the email is registered to a privacy service. The contact information on the website is Biomedical Research Network+, LLC, 1 Westbrook Corporate Center, Suite 300, one Westchester, IL 60154, USA +1 (720) 414-3554 Fax - (720) 367-5187 info@biomedres.us angelaroy@biomedres.us. The registrant of biomedres.us provides the same physical address along with the name Biomedical Research Network + LLC and email URL of openaccessnetworks@gmail.com. The Westbrook Corporate Center is a property with "virtual office" space on sale for as little as $2 a day.

UPDATE (5/24/21)

Today saw two emails from Angela Roy within four minutes of each other. A call to the telephone number was answered by an editorial assistant. When I asked for the editor, he requested me to email him and promised to contact the editor while I remained on the line. I emailed the address he provided (finance@biomedres.us) as follows:

Dear Sir,
We talked a few minutes ago. I was trying to find the name and contact information for your the journal's editor in chief. I could not find that on the website and wanted to include it in a list of journals that I compiling. I do not need to take up his or her time. You can simply send the information by replying to this email.
Thanks for your help,

I am still waiting for a reply. Nevertheless, as Angela recommends, I still start each day with a great smile.

Coalesce Research Group Aims to "Create Ideal Platform for Scientific Community"

Coalesce Research Group (coalesceresearchgroup.com) aims "to create ideal platform for scientific community in which providing free access to all the new research through our international standard journals globally without any restrictions." The About Us page begins with this mouthful:
Coalesce Research Group is an USA based emerging open access publisher and International Conference Event organizer which owe to serve the scientific community by serving the high quality genuine research work from eminent scientists, professors, scientific research communities in all fields of medicine, clinical, life science, engineering and technology to the Research Scholars, Students, Libraries, Educational Institutions, Research centers and industries with the aim of "Enhance your Research" in the respective fields.
Plainly, one has to wonder what "an USA based" means. Does "USA based" mean a physical presence in the US? Coalesce purports to be located at 33 Market Point Dr, Greenville, SC 29607, USA, +1-718-543-9362. Flagship Commercial rents virtual offices there. For $99 a month, you get "Flex Space, Lounge, Live Receptionist, Mailing Address and Collection, Wi-fi, Access (8:30-5:00), Coffee, and Access to printer/copier/scan/fax. Conference Rooms and Day Offices at $15 hour." Whoever is behind the website registered the Coalesce domain name through Godaddy's Domains By Proxy. The only editorial board listed on the website has no U.S. members.

[UPDATE 30 August 2019: As "Smut Clyde" comments below, the profiles of key employees on Linked In indicate that Coalesce is operating from Hyderabad. Akhil Srikanth, the company's "Social Media Executive" came to Coalesce from "OMICS International Conference," where he was "Business Development Executive."]

The journals do not yet exist -- at least, not if a journal is a collection of articles released in distinct issues and volumes. There are journal pages within the one website. These include "Guidelines Instructions for Authors" and a tab for "issues" that has a drop-down menu of "Articles in Press," "Current Issue," and "Archive." The titles of the journals are "International Journal Of Psychological Research And Medicine," "Modern Journal Of Medicine And Biology," "Journal Of Neurological Studies," and the "Journal Of Public Health Care." The first three have no editor, no editorial board, and no articles. The fourth has an editorial board (without an editor in chief) and one article in press, from authors in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Faculty of Literature and Human Sciences, Lorestan University, Khoramabad, Iran. This article acknowledges that "[t]he results described in this paper were part of student thesis."

The Flaky Academic Conferences blog has some information on Coalesce's conference spam.

"The New American Journal of Medicine" May Be New But Is It American?

Yesterday's spam included a solicitation from a journal with no publisher, no address other than "USA," and no link to a website. The New American Journal of Medicine is not to be confused with The American Journal of Medicine, established in 1946 and now published by Elsevier for the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine.

So far, The New American Journal has four papers posted on the website www.najmed.org. No, make that three -- the fourth link returns a Page Not Found error. The three are from China. The Editor-in-Chief is said to be "Binglin ZHU, MD, PhD, University at Buffalo USA." None of the 49 alleged editorial board members are in the U.S. The instructions for authors begin "The document needs to be prepared in English language."

The New American Journal seems to be linked to United Prime Publications and Universal Access Publications (uapublications.com).The domain name najmed.us is registered to Yruva Williams and the organization named "Nevada" with the email url oncology@clinicofonco.info and address 500 N. Rainbow Blvd, Suite 300, Las Vegas NV, and telephone 775-515-7689. That address and telephone is used by United Prime and Universal Access. Yruva owns the domain names of dozens of their journals. Najmed.org's registration data is obscured, but the website's pretense at contact information is a sufficient giveaway. It says, "Get In Touch: Las Vegas, Nevada 89107 USA +1 7755157689."

JScholar's Journal of Forensic Research and Crime Studies (JFRCS)

JScholar's Journal of Forensic Research and Crime Studies (JFRCS) promises "maintaining rigorous peer-review process." A competent academic journal would use referees to suggest improvements in most articles they recommend for acceptance, but the JFRCS reviewers need not spend much time on that because "All accepted papers will be appeared online immediately" and online is the only mode of publication. Instant publication also helps lighten the editors' workload.

The latest article has such mysterious keywords as "Stranger Legal System" and "Frayed Punishment." For the curious, here is the abstract:

This article is based after prolong research on the subject matter whether the doctrine of incremental punishment is practicable. The pathetic case of Aruna Shanbag has been taken as the central theme of the research. The Doctrine of Double Principle looks all right till such time cases of this nature confront us. And such incidences are on the rise. The responsible society cannot look the other day and wish that such nagging questions may fade away. Not any longer. The idea of Doctrine of Incremental Punishment is being raised which may be applicable in grievous and dangerous hurt particularly when this has far-reaching effect on the victim.

Thank goodness for "rigorous peer-review process."

The cost for the privilege of having work posted in this journal is $777. The institution supplying the most papers so far is the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science at the University of New Haven. Need I mention that Dr. Lee is on the editorial board? The college  has provided 43% of the 44 pages that comprise the three slim "volumes." An issue -- indeed, an entire volume -- can consist of a single paper. Some volumes are single issues.

The editorial board members are (grouped by country and institutional affiliation):

Henry C. Lee, Distinguished Chair Professor, University of New Haven, Founder, Henry Lee Institute of Forensic Science, Director, Forensic Research & Training Center
Heather Miller Coyle, Associate Professor, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice & Forensic Sciences, [University of New Haven], USA

United Prime Publications Acts as a Shell

United Prime Publications (UP) "is an esteemed and zealous in publishing various scientific and medical journals which acts as a shell that provides latest research information for all the researchers across the world." (About Us). Its review board hail from Egypt (4), Ethiopia (2), India (2), China (1), and Pakistan (1). Yet, its address is 500 N Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89107, USA (telephone 775-515-7689) -- the same address and telephone number used by UA (Universal Access) Publications.

The publisher's website has a page for Ebooks in 15 fields. None exist yet.

The site lists 50 journals. The one that spammed me names Akiko Yamasaki of Kyoto University, Japan, as Editor-in-Chief. She also edits OMICS International's Journal of Blood & Lymph, which provides the following biography: "Specially appointed associate professor, Graduate School of Medicine." The email ends " United Journal of Medicine and Health Care, United States," but the "United States" part seems, shall we say, questionable.

The only "issue" of the journal consists of separately paginated items totaling 11 pages. One author is, you guessed it, Akiko Yamasaki (listed in the paper as affiliated with Tokushima Bunri University). This issue 1 of volume 1 carries two dates, 2018 and 2019, depending on which paper one opens. (The "journal" does not seem to have a table of contents.)

The domain name unitedprimepublications.net was registered to Sri Latha, 303 Vrishabhadri, Nilayam, India (770-290-1951, unitedprime222@gmail.com). That latter email address also was used to register unitedprimepublictns.com with the alias and address Unitedp Prime, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India (+91.9505649135).

UPDATE 3 Sept 2019

The very busy Akiko Yamasaki is on the editorial board of the Japanese Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and is now editor-in-chief of International Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health (the latest indiscriminate spammer). Both journals give the address "Niigata, 7F Stork Building Kagamibashi, 1230-7, 7- bancho, Kamiookawamaedori, Chuo-ku, Niigata, 951-8068, Japan." Neither acknowledges a relationship to United Prime, and neither journal appears in the United Prime website. Yet, the former reproduces UPP's slogan when it announces that "Japanese Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is an esteemed and zealous in publishing various scientific and medical journals which acts as a shell that provides latest research information for all the researchers across the world."

The International Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health's email from Dr. Yamasaki is a clone of the linguistically challenged one from United Prime's United Journal of Medicine and Health Care. Moreover, the email address in the spam from this nascent journal (it has only one article in its shell) is ijpmenthealth.jp. The registrant of that domain is none other than United Prime, with the following contact information: contact(at)untdprimepublications.net, [Postal code] 567-5785, [Postal Address] tokyo, [Phone] +81.7755157689.

Nextgen Research Publications

Nextgen Research Publication produces a single journal -- the the sweeping International Journal of New Technology and Research. Although "[t]he journal invites authors to submit original and unpublished work that communicates current research on new technology,"its understanding of technology research is expansive. It publishes articles such as "History and Hindu Mythology," "Sustainability of India’s Fiscal Deficit," and "Students Assertiveness Level of Vocational School."

"IJNTR serves an intellectual audience." I suppose that's the best kind for a research journal. Authors must complete a "copy Right form" under which "[t]he undersigned hereby transfer any and all rights in and to the paper including without limitation all copyrights to the IJNTR." IJNTR claims that it needs to acquire copyright "to index them to various repositories." A simple license from the author would permit that.

"The Faculty seeks, through its activities, to bring about an improvement in research of the public." Considering the current state of the "research of the public," I hope the "faculty" of this private company will succeed.

The email, is from "Editor in Chief" whose identity is undisclosed on the email, the website, and the Facebook page. The address of this "Certified Online Journal [for or in?] India | Germany | France | Japan" is 111, Prithviraj Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan +91 88243 55528.

UPDATE (28 August 2019): Nextgen now publishes three expansively named journals: the International Journal of New Technology and Research (IJNTR), World Journal of Innovative Research (WJIR), and World Journal of Research and Review (WJRR). At the same Jaipur address is Innovatia Letters (IL) "Published monthly by Innovatia Publication" but still advertising for submissions for the first issue in 2017.

The Ubiquitous Alireza Heidari at the Fake California South University

Alireza Heidari of California South University is a very busy academic -- so accomplished in such a short time that one might question whether he is a real person. The university website describes "Prof. Dr. Alireza Heidari, Ph.D., D.Sc." as
a Full Distinguished Professor and Academic Tenure of Chemistry at California South University (CSU), Irvine, California, USA. He has got his Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees from California South University (CSU), Irvine, California, USA.
This biographical note strains credulity (and continues to butcher English), bragging that
Syne, he has been awarded more than one thousand reputed international awards, prizes, scholarships and honors. Heretofore, he has multiple editorial duties in many reputed international and peer–reviewed journals, books and publishers. Hitherward, he is a member of more than four hundreds reputed international academic–scientific–research institutes around the world."
"Reputed peer-reviewed journals" is an apt phrase. This eminent Cal South graduate is on the editorial boards of journals from such flaky, deceptive, or predatory publishers as OMICS (which downgrades him to "a Postdoctoral Research Fellow," albeit with "double postdocs"), Allied Academies, ReDelveScitechnol, and Peertechz (where he is an editor-in-chief).

I had never heard of the university before, but it has an amazing website. There, we learn that "[t]he university ranks among the top five universities in the United States and among the top public research universities worldwide." The Reputation page concludes with the forthright admission that "The university has been the subject of several recent scandals. In 2011, the school’s dean of medicine resigned after plagiarizing much of his graduation address. In 2012, the University’s Psychiatry department chair was placed on leave before officially beginning his duties after allegations emerged of an inappropriate sexual relationship with a patient."

Although these unfortunate events might place CSU among the top five universities -- for recent scandals -- the school does not even exist. It is a website that sells diplomas (with higher prices for higher GPAs).

ReDelve International Publications Is Divulging to a Multitude of Audience

ReDelve International Publications International is "divulging to a multitude of audience from across the world." Along with this revelation, the About Us page emphasizes that "all our articles go through a diligent and thorough editorial and peer-review process in order to maintain the quality of content."

Forty-nine journals are listed. I picked one to inspect. The Annals of International Case Reports' diligent and thorough process apparently does not bother with an editor-in-chief to make decisions. The first board member is the ubiquitous Alireza Heidari of the fake California Southern University.

The publisher's supposed address is "20 S. Third St., Ste. 210, Ohio, 43215, United States." You can rent a "virtual office" there from Regus for $1.60 - $7.20.

Although this LLC was incorporated in Ohio on May 18, 2018, by Keerthana Nallapuram, its true headquarters might be in Hyderabad. The D+B Hoovers database lists Redelve International Publications Private Limited, located at Plot No 94/a, First Floor Addagutta Society, hmt Colony, Kukatpally Rangareddi, Hyderabad, Telangana, 500072 India. Another database gives the date of incorporation with the Registrar of Companies, Hyderabad, as December 26, 2018.

The directors of the Indian corporation are Bala Bhargavi Marella and Raj Krishna Parvataneni. The registered email address is rajp@redelve.com. Redelve registered the domain name redelve.com on May 28, 2018.

Although the corporation has yet to file a financial report, Zoominfo states that the Ohio LLC has 18 employees and revenues of 3.8 million dollars -- an impressive feat for a company in its first year, with journals that have no editorial board.and no articles to show.
Email
ReDelve has yet to email me as an esteemed researcher who could contribute to its divulgements. Instead, it came to my attention by trying to sneak an advertisement into this blog in the guise of a comment to a posting on Gavin Publishers. This practice on the part of unscrupulous advertisers is no longer unusual, as the posting entitled "Parasites" indicates.
