Too Many IJARs

So many low quality and predatory journals have sprung up that they are having trouble finding unique names. Today (9 Mar. 2018), I heard from “International Journal of Advanced Research (IJAR)” — “an open access, peer-reviewed, International Journal, that provides rapid publication (monthly) of research articles, review articles and short communications in all subjects.” That’s all subjects. Not just all of science, or all of engineering, or all of the arts, or all of the humanities. Nope, this one “journal” gives you all of the above. And it does so with nearly instant, double-blind peer review:

All the Submitted papers will be assigned Unique Manuscript Number with in 24 hours after submission. ... The Reviewing process is completed with in 10 days after submission.

What could be better than a manuscript with a Unique Manuscript Number? As for content, suffice it to say that IJAR’s most frequently downloaded “article” is a 107-page chemistry Ph.D. thesis penned by a graduate of Dravidian University (Kuppam, India). See http://www.journalijar.com/ (3/6/18).

In any event, when I searched for discussion of IJAR on the web, I hit upon another IJAR — the International Journal of Academic Research, said to be from Sucharitha Publications (which does not have an easily discoverable website). This IJAR is equally comprehensive (or unfocused). It “seeks to promote original research and cultivate fruitful dialogues between previous and innovative thoughts.” http://ijar.org.in/aboutus.php. Some of its articles are in Sanskrit (I think), some have broken links (“not found”), and an abstract in the latest issue (January 2018) begins as follows: “The majority and minority in India problematic issues and have its long roots in the history.”

A journal by the same name (presumably unrelated) was published by the Progress Publishing Company, located in Baku, Azerbaijan. According to Uli Kozok, Predatory Publishing: A Case Story, Dec. 15, 2017, it had a fake editorial board and went out of business.

Yet a fourth IJAR is the Indian Journal of Applied Research. The website of this IJAR -- the acronym is the website's -- has a scrolling banner with the slogan "Have a happy publishing." The publisher is World Wide Journals, which "was founded in Ahmedabad (India) in 2011 by Dr. Khansa Memon."

And the list of IJARs goes on. The "Welcome to IJAR" webpage for the International Journal of Anatomy and Research (IJAR) explains that this IJAR "aims to provide an international forum for encouraging nobel discussions ... providing maximum access to advanced current academic and clinical information of the god's finest architecture."

UPDATE 11/15/20: Some of the International Journal of Advanced Research's email disguises itself as a response to a request. This bit of duplicity is in the IJAR spam collected below.
