Scholarly Pages (previously The Scientific Pages?): "You can submit as you write"

All indicators are negative. The website text includes the following delicts:
⊘ "Scholarly Pages provide track for a variety of international scientific journals to access the latest updates in the interrelated fields”
⊘ “Each journal has the ... experts' team providing support and guidance ... to improvise the submitted papers ... .”
⊘ “Peer Reviewer carried out by the scholarly peers play a crucial role in ensuring the scientific integrity of the scholarly record entailed with us.”
⊘ “The individuality status and exertion habits of the lead editor play major roles in setting the editorial pitch.”
The Annals of Atoms and Molecules solicits papers on such topics as Bohr Model, Chemical Bonding Explained, and Formation. The entire journal consists of a five-page article from Hungary (László Nemes (2017) Carbon Vapor and Carbon Plasma Infrared Emission. Ann Atoms Molecules 1(1):1-5).

The publisher's alleged address is 1805 N Carson St, Carson City. Nevada. Zillo identifies that with “a single family home that contains 2,136 sq ft and was built in 2005.” It appears to be a mail drop used to provide an ersatz physical address to fraudulent and real businesses alike. See, e.g., IG MTP; Baktrak.

The domain schscipages.com is registered to the unlikely name of John David, V C L, 1805 N Carson Street, Suite S, Carson City, NV 89701, +1.3022940933, johndavid.ed1976@hotmail.com. Another one, scholarlypages.org, hides behind Privacy Protect, LLC, 10 Corporate Drive, Burlington MA.

The address and insipid logo match those of “The Scientific Pages launched [in 2016] with 65 worthless scholarly journals.” The new incarnation claims to have 114 journals. The generic spam to authors leaves it to them to guess which journal is soliciting their $655 payment (“[a]s per the annual board meeting held on April 01, 2018”).

Scholarena feels pleasure to publish names of toes

Scholarena promises to “enlighten your knowledge” with such journals as JMSA (Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Analysis), which “publishes significant and important research from all area [sic] of mathematical and statistical science fields such as pure and applied mathematics ... .”

It might not seem surprising that a mathematics journal would publish papers on pure mathematics, but the logos on the journal’s website show a nice microscope, test tubes and skeletal structural formulas for a few organic molecules. Maybe that is the publisher’s idea of mathematics, for the website states that this mathematics journal “aims . . for sharing new empirical findings and novel ideas in the emerging field of clinical, health and medical professions education.” The articles in press, the current issue, and the archive can be described by the null set {}. For all the graphics, the journal is empty. It has an editorial board of one person. Or does it? The editor is said to be “Mais Nijim, USA” — no link or institutional affiliation. There is an associate professor of computer science at a university in Kingsville, Texas by that name.

JPAR (Journal of Pancreas and Advanced Research) offers a similar story (and logos). It has an editorial board with two names and no links — this time “Athanasia Papazafiropoulou, Greece,” and “Vedat Goral, Turkey.” But, hey, for a journal with no contents, two editors are plenty.

The journal that spammed me is JFCS (Journal of Forensic and Crime Studies). Its website explains that “We accept manuscript [sic] related to a wide range of topics including Forensic analysis, Crime scene investigation, latent fingerprints, and so on.” It has a long editorial board (but no editor-in-chief). The following U.S. members are on this “eminent editorial board”:
Viviana Andreescu, Associate Professor, Department of Criminal Justice, University of Louisville
Lisa M Dadio, Full Time Forensic Science Lecturer Instructor, University of New Haven
Lisa Herzig, Associate Professor, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, California State University
Stephen T Holmes, Associate Professor, Department of Criminal Justice, University of Central Florida
Yingru Li, Assistant Professor of GIS, Department of Sociology, University of Central Florida Orlando
Catresa G Meyers, Assistant Professor, Department of Criminal Justice, Temple University
Brij Mohan, Dean Emeritus, School of Social Work, Louisiana State University
Mustapha Mouloua, Professor of Psychology and Human Factors, Director of the Transportation Research Group Laboratory, University of Central Florida
Lee E. Ross, Associate Professor, Department of Criminal Justice, University of Central Florida
Lisa L Sample, Reynolds Professor, University of Nebraska at Omaha, School of Criminology and Criminal Justice
Dennis M Savard, Assistant Professor, Department of Criminal Justice, Saginaw Valley State University
Teruya-Feldstein Julie, Professor, Department of Hematopathology, Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai Health System
There are several articles in press and one 22-page issue to date. The most impressive article (in a way) is a two-page item, “Human Body Via Art,” with insights such as “The composition of the human body shows to be composed of a number of certain elements such as Ca2, Na+, K+, C, etc. in different proportions.” And — catch this — “human leg fingers ... are big toe, second toe, middle toe, fourth toe, and pinky toe.” Oh, just in case you did not know, “Legs are used for standing, walking, jumping running, and similar activities.

Scholarena has a great flow chart of the peer-review process for all its journals. The box “MS accepted for publication” leads directly to “Reject for Publication.” Scholarena also is in the medical conference business, almost entirely in “Vegas USA.”

Pegasi Media Group's Parasitic Spam

This posting is not directed at a publisher -- flaky, predatory, or otherwise. Its subject is Pegasi Media Group. The group seems to sell specialized email lists to spammers. Like a parasite, it advertise these lists through thinly disguised comments in blogs. (The ones I purged from this blog are at the end of this posting.)

The firm's prose is reminiscent of some flaky journals. The webpage on "Our Obligations" includes the following promise about "Integrity and Clarity":
Transparent in our business, transactions and honest in our research studies. As clarity is one of the major issues that prick the minds of both website owners and customers, we assure you that we are transparent and honest with our work. We do not keep our customers or clients in the dark but make them aware of every progress.
For all this talk of transparency, the individuals behind Pegasi and the location of the firm are hidden by domainsbyproxy.com. But Pegasi is correct about one thing:
Unfortunately in today's world of marketing, it usually is hard to find ethical people when it comes to work ... [S]taff motivation and positivity in the internal environment of the organization is as important as the good health of the external environment ... .

The comment-spam follows:
Beautifully written article! You have covered all the points. The language that is used is very easy to understand. Whatever is mentioned in this article is absolutely correct and realistic. Pegasi Media Group provides you the precise, apt, and the most accurate email list pertaining the industries that you wish to target. Our services provide you the customer's additional information which gives you a clear insight about their requirements. Who Put the "American" in "American Research Journals"?

According to the American Research Journal of Genetics, “[g]enetics is theoriginal [sic] study of all aspects of human and animal genetics ... .” Oh well, I never cared for plant genetics anyway. The named editors include “Dr. Niels Morling, MD, DMSc, Professor of Forensic Genetics, Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.” Although the website reports no articles in press and no editor-in-chief, it assures us that “the current issue edition will be published shortly.”

The American Journal of Nanotechnology is in the same boat — no articles in press, and no editor-in-chief. Yet, it too maintains that “the current issue edition will be published shortly We highly appreciate and encourage the Professors, Research scholars, Students, Research fellows etc, to globally publish their articles in our Journal.”

The American Research Journal of Mathematics has no articles in press, but it has a couple of past issues.

The non-US affiliations of most of the editors of these “American Research Journals” invite the question of where the American part comes from. An About Us webpage states that "[w]hile ARJ caters to authors from all around the world, its American roots are not to be forgotten." It (conveniently?) omits any mention of what those roots are, but it is good to know that ARJ is "[w]orking towards a brighter future in terms of creative, qualitative and quantitative research" and that "[t]he organization motivates its members towards achieving a vision of 'Total Egalitarian Research'."

A webpage on “membership” amusingly—or candidly—refers to “reputed Editorial Board members.” It tells us that “[a]ll submissions are reviewed by a panel of reputed Editorial Board members from many international locations worldwide.” It would be hard to find many members in international locations outside of this world, but the nanotechnology journal lists some editors from NASA, so who knows?

The US addresses for the reputed publisher could be bogus. The “Arkansas Office” at “1120 S Walton Blvd, Suite 138 Bentonville, Arkansas” is in a hotel and spa. but the South Walton Suites and Spa does provide “office units beginning at 750 square feet.” The “Chicago Office” (at “8770 West Bryn Mawr Ave, Suite 1300 Chicago, Illinois - 60631-3515, USA”) could be one the “[v]irtual offices and addresses in O'Hare Airport” supplied by the Regus Company. The domain name arjonline.org does not lead to the names or locations of the real people behind the 54 journals—just to the firm Privacy Protect, LLC (PrivacyProtect.org), 10 Corporate Drive, Burlington, Massachusetts.

Copernicus Publishers

Not to be confused with Copernicus Publications in Germany, Copernicus Publishing is just entering a crowded field of pretenders. Copernicus Publishing's website (copernicuspublishing.com) identifies two academic journals -- Archives of Psychology and Clinical Medicine Review (CMR).

The link to the latter does not work, but the website (such as it is) can be found at www.clinicalmedicinereview.org). The solicitation spam fails to mention that there is no such journal -- at least, not yet. Clicking on "current" and "archives" triggers the response "This journal has not published any issues." Clicking on "Authors Guidelines" yields "File not found." The website lists neither an editor nor an editorial board. The publisher's motto ought to be, "After they come, we'll build it."

The domain names copernicuspublishing.org and copernicuspublishing.com were registered by GoDaddy's Domains By Proxy on Feb. 7, 2018, masking the identity of the principals. The address on the website belongs to Back Office Plus:

Dear Dr. Kaye DH, I recently read the paper you had written "The good - the bad - the ugly: the NAS report on strengthening forensic science in America." and thought that perhaps you could write a paper for the upcoming issue of CMR which I have been assigned to edit. Are you still at Pennsylvania State University ? If you could send me more information on your current work that would be nice. The submission could be either a followup research article or a review. I would be happy to read any of your current work to see if it is within the scope of the journal. Are you potentially interested in contributing such a paper?
    Sincerely,
